The Dominican Baseball Organization for Kids The mission of this organization is to help kids in poverty throughout the Dominican Republic to be put in a position to succeed and avoid falling into the wrong behavior. I am very passionate about the work this organization will do because I have had a first hand experience of the environment these kids are in. During a baseball tournament and mission trip to the country, I saw the way these kids live and the help they need. The Dominican Republic is plagued by poverty and leads many kids into a violent environment. We look to provide these kids with a way to escape and have the ability to succeed later in life. For many boys in the Dominican Republic the only way to get out is through baseball. When the kids turn sixteen they are put in an all in one facility, where they go to school, sleep, and play baseball. There are many things that go into making the world a better place, but we have the ability as a person to make an impact on the changing the world around us. I believe equality in today’s society is the most important factor in making the world a better place. If we destroy the divides between race and gender, it will create a chain reaction of events that will better the planet. When I was younger I didn’t realize the privilege I had of growing up in Orange County. I believed everyone lived the same way I did. However, this changed dramatically when I went to the Dominican Republic for a baseball tournament and to help the communities in the area. It first hit me right when we began to descend into the airport in Santo Domingo. There was a small village that was made solely out of scrap metal. Gambling can be very fun at times, but can also ruin your life. You can gamble on almost anything, from who will win a football game to the color of shoes a performer will wear. However my favorite type of gambling is blackjack. The goal of the card game is to get as close to twenty-one without going over. If you go over you lose, but if the dealer is closer to twenty-one than you, you lose as well.
